In a world where it nearly costs an arm and a leg to do anything as a family activity, the Carolina BallonFest is a welcome surprise. I made the drive up to the Statesville Airport on Friday evening. What is normally roughly an hour drive from Uptown Charlotte, took a little longer in Friday evening traffic.
This was my first visit to the Carolina BalloonFest, even though this year they were celebrating their 40th anniversary of the event. The festival is held in a large field, adjacent to the Stateville Regional Airport. As you’ll see from the video, there are numerous hot air balloons that take off between the hours of 4 and 5:30 p.m. In addition to the hot air balloons taking ascending from the field, there is live music, food, and bouncy/inflatable rides for children. Best of all, the price of admission is extremely cheap, for the level of entertainment! Check out the website link above for details on ticket prices, directions, and schedule.
